Lavender Soap

$ 8

We grow a lot of lavender for our bath and body products. If there is a way I can incorporate lavender into the product I’ll figure it out.  I believe you can’t have too much lavender in your life! This soap is no exception. Over the years my recipe has gone through many adjustments.

Today, I think I’ve maxed out of ways to incorporate lavender into this soap. The day we harvest our lavender we drop some into a  large copper still and make lavender water, also known as hydrosol. This hydrosol captures all the essential oils in the flowers and stems.

The next thing we do is we take more lavender and infuse the olive oil. Then we set more bundles for drying so we can grind it up into a powder to add to the soap. We always save some buds to decorate the top of the loaf. The result is a bar of fresh lavender in full bloom right in your hand!

Lavender is known for its natural soothing properties. It can relieve headaches; effective in clearing depression, promotes natural sleep, and gently strengthens the nervous system. The essential oil can reduce, aches, pains, inflammation and is beneficial in treating conditions like skin redness, burns, eczema, and psoriasis. Its herbal actions are carminative, antispasmodic, relaxing nervine, antidepressant, rubefacient, emmenagogue, hypotensive (Hoffmann, 2003)
