Hops & Suds Soap

$ 8

This soap is a throwback to the 1960's and 1970's when teenage girls in my California neighborhood would rinse their hair with beer as a conditioner and highlighter. Our Dads weren't happy with us when we “borrowed” their beer to "play beauty parlor".

I decided to make a soap to pay homage to that era but with the added twist of using a Connecticut-made micro-brewed beer from Willimantic Brewing Company. It came out so well that I decided to keep it in my line.

In recent years a local farmer in my town started growing hops. When they are ready for harvest, I run over to his farm and pick up a few pounds and toss them in my dehydrator. There is nothing better smelling than fresh hops!  After they are done, I grind them up into a powder and add them to the soap.  I save some buds to add to the top of the loaf. The soap comes out beautifully!

Beer has ingredients that are very beneficial to your skin and hair. Its hops are known to soothe irritated skin and they also contain polyphenol, which acts as an antibacterial agent and a natural preservative. Additionally, hops contain skin-softening amino acids and locally micro-brewed beers are used because of their freshness.

Ingredients: Olive oil, safflower oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, fresh local goat’s milk, beer, Irish moss (gentle exfoliant), fragrance oil.
